Win Supply Tenders

istock_000006414013xsmallMany Government Departments and large corporate organisations now have a requirement in tenders for potential suppliers to provide evidence of environmental policies and strategies to minimise their environmental impact.

The Australian Procurement and Construction Council (APCC) have developed the world's first government procurement framework to incorporate all three elements of sustainability into one document. The application of sustainability in contracting delivers cost savings and sends a clear consistent message to the market regarding the Governments' commitment to sustainable alternatives.

In addition, many large companies such as major Banks, legal firms and manufacturers also require suppliers to have "green practices" in place. This is part of their supply chain review and all suppliers, regardless of size, are expected to comply.

The following are examples of large companies who now require their suppliers to demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment:

IBM

IBM is committed to doing business with environmentally responsible suppliers. The company recently announced that its first-tier suppliers will now be required to establish and sustain a management system to address their corporate and environmental responsibilities. Specifically, suppliers are required to do the following:

  • Define, deploy, and sustain a management system that addresses corporate responsibility, including supplier conduct and environmental protection
  • Measure performance and establish voluntary, quantifiable environmental goals
  • Publicly disclose results associated with these voluntary environmental goals and other environmental aspects of their management systems.

NAB

Our supplier selection process aims to clearly inform potential suppliers of our expectations, policies and requirements, which include doing business with suppliers that have sound environmental workplace practices. Our tender evaluation process includes questions regarding these practices.

McDonalds

McDonald's is taking major steps to ensure that its suppliers meet strict ethical and environmental standards and to raise the bar of sustainability across the entire food industry, says Jessica Droste Yagan, Senior Manager, Sustainable Supply Chain.
