The Greenhouse Effect

The Greenhouse Effect relates to the trapping of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere that prevents heat from escaping. This is a natural phenomenon however the build-up of greenhouses gasses from human activity has resulted in an "enhanced greenhouse effect" that results in even less heat escaping.

It is called the Greenhouse Effect as it is similar to the impact of glass houses or green houses used in colder climates to grow plants, fruit and vegetables. These glass structures are designed to ensure that the temperature inside remains warmer than outside.

So what are the impacts of the enhanced Greenhouse Effect?

The vast majority of the scientific community believe that the enhanced greenhouse effect has contributed to the trend in global warming which in turn has created many impacts such as:

  • Rising sea levels
  • Extreme Weather Events
  • Increase in tropical deceases
  • More bushfires
  • Business disruption from extreme hot days
